Refuge Ministries Canada

1 min read

Any ministry built on a strong foundation is built on the Word of God: “The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” —Psalms 9:9

Refuge Ministries Canada is: “Supporting those released from custody transitioning into our community.”

This vital ministry receives referrals from probation and parole offices and from Teen Challenge, a faith-based residential treatment program. Another way they reach those released from custody is by providing Release Kits—put together through a network of local churches—they include practical items like a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, pen, notebook, and shampoo. But they also include a small Bible, a gospel tract, and a Refuge Ministries business card with contact information. Each kit is given to those released from custody through community partners.

They currently have four transitional houses, accepting residents based on an interview, a signed agreement on the guidelines and expectations of the house, and most importantly, each resident is supported in the community and connected with our ACOP Church, Faith Alive Family Church in London, Ontario.

Pastor Dave Bahadur of Faith Alive Family Church says, “I have seen firsthand so many lives transformed by the Lord through Refuge Ministries Canada as they truly support those released from custody, supporting them as they transition into our community.”

Our residents attend a weekly recovery group meeting, and accountability expectations are required alongside being productive in the community—working, in school, or volunteering. And the fruit? Lives are consistently impacted by the power of a relationship with the LORD! There is nothing like experiencing freedom—John 8:36 says, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

Refuge Freedom Stories is a weekly radio show that features stories of hope and change from those who have found freedom in Christ. And so we asked, Rev. Alan Campbell, Ministry Director, what keeps him going? “Staying true to what we’re called to; using our vision statement to filter everything we do. We keep the Lord first, are led by the Holy Spirit, and we pray! Prayer is the foundation of what we do—without the LORD and the HOLY SPIRIT directing us, what our ministry does, including how to minister effectively, and making difficult decisions wouldn’t be possible.”

We celebrate alongside you, Refuge Ministries Canada. We can clearly see how you are Extending Grace & Igniting Hope in your community of London, Ontario! God Bless!
