On January 11, 2020, a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) reportedly claimed its first victim in the Wuhan province of China. By March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization had declared a global pandemic. Amid this fear and uncertainty, it is natural to wonder what God is doing.
I have enjoyed reading John Piper’s Meditations for some time now. This book is relevant to our times, especially in the light of the epidemic of Covid 19. He doesn’t just deal with this epidemic but also the condition of humankind according to the scriptures. He has also published at least fifteen other books that might interest the reader.
The first section of the book deals with “The God who Reigns Over the Coronavirus, and the solid foundation the Believer in Jesus Christ who is our Rock in a time of trouble.”
The book deals with what God is doing through the Coronavirus. He goes back into history and shows how God brought judgments on humankind for their departure from him such as in the days of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and Israel as well as other nations.
He backs his claims with many scriptures. He deals with Satan who plays a part in his rebellion against God and how he affects human life. He also believes that the Coronavirus is a wake-up call for us to be reading the Second Coming of Christ.
You will appreciate John’s scriptural reasons for his conclusion.
This is an easy read.
